Tidal race on the tay for rs400 tour at wormit boating club.

The forecast was to be light, so Jamie and Neil (mainly Neil) took the opportunity to have a bit of a lie in and take a leaf out of Angus and Imogen's book as seasoned pros at turning up late but still managing to make the first race.

With the wind swinging around the fleet was slow to get on the water. Jon and Amanda even managed to find themselves a kite, after finding they had left theirs in the garage. Surprisingly, Neil and Jamie managed to be the first boat out after an F1 inspired pit stop rigging session.

The rest of the fleet followed suit to find a strong tide ensuring slow progress towards the committee boat. The race officer made the decision to move the fleet towards the Dundee side of the Tay in the hope of more wind. This proved to be a prudent decision as the wind filled in nicely. Race one got underway without issues, other than the disappearing act of Dave and Fraser with excuses of broken pintles to blame.

Race 1 finished with Stuart and Sarah taking the first bullet followed by Richard and Hester who seem to be able to find a groove in light airs, followed by Jon and Amanda in third.

Race 2 proved to be the start of the days snakes and ladders game, the wind swinging slightly and also building. The race officer with the new wind direction decided to move the marks. Stuart and Sarah again capitalised with another first. Jon and Amanda showing usual good form with a second, and followed Bob and Nadia in third.

Race 3 started with an increase of the outgoing tide. This made for an interesting start where we  were being pushed over the line. Some more so than others with Jon and Amanda having to go back and start again. Everyone else seemingly getting away ok.

With the tide slingshotting everyone towards the windward mark a few over shot having to almost reach downwind to get around. The leaders took the option to head to the Dundee shoreline to get out the tide with most following. Bob and Nadia finding themselves back makers deciding that following wasn't going to help their score so they took a brave decision to stick down the middle followed by Dave and Fraser and shortly by Neil and Jamie. This was a cracking decision as Bob and Nadia were first to the leeward mark much to the surprise of the rest of the fleet. The race finished with Bob and Nadia in first followed by local boys Dave and Fraser and third Jamie and Neil.

Race 4 proving even more difficult to start with continuing strong tidal currents, finally Jamie and Neil managed a good start and found themselves up near the front. Upon arrival at the windward mark Jamie and Neil spotted Jon and Amanda and Stuart and Sarah steaming in on port. This saw some quick tacks and some slight avoiding action by Neil and Jamie narrowly missing Jon and Amanda, who found themselves well and truly taking advantage of being able to hit marks, however maybe to the extreme as they got a little tangled to say the least. Dave and Fraser in the meantime sneaking past into first.. The race finished with Stuart and Sarah retiring meaning Dave and Fraser achieving a well deserved first followed by Jamie and Neil in second then Bob and Nadia in third.

All in all a mixed day with most placing up and down in the fleet. Bob and Nadia took the win with a prize of a DIY Dark and Stormy. Stuart and Sarah in second and Jamie and Neil coming in their first write up position of third but through count back on 4 races. There was also on optional two bridges race on Sunday held by the club which was won by Jon and amanda well done team.

Many thanks to all the volunteers at Wormit Boating Club for the running of the day. A great day was had by all.
