Nick Craig first won the RS400 Nationals 20 years ago in 2004, and won at Royal Torbay in 2012. We asked him why he was so quick to get his name on the list - here's what he said;
"We’re coming back to the RS400 because Adam really enjoys sailing it and so do I! The 400 is a well mannered and responsive boat with many modes and angles up and downwind making for highly competitive racing.
I’ve done a few championships in the excellent waters of Torbay which bring big but nicely spread waves in an easterly wind but mostly sheltered waters making for good racing for all levels in the fleet.
Torquay is a lively town with lots of bars and restaurants so it should be a fun week for the whole family."
Whilst most sailors can only dream of racing at Nick's level, all RS400 sailors are most welcome at Torbay for the Nationals - in fact, the worse you are, the more likely you are to be buddied up with Nick, and then you can't fail to learn something!
For those new to the fleet, our buddy system, where we put everyone in groups of 3 boats, is renowned for helping everyone get to know each other and for the more experienced sailors to pass on their knowledge to their buddies.
There are prizes for bronze and silver fleet sailors, plus a draw for an RS400 spinnaker kindly donated by RS Sailing, with all proceeds going to our charity partner, the Ellen MacArthur cancer Trust, who support young people aged 8-24 in their recovery from cancer by inviting them on sailing or outdoor adventures.
