Results / SEANS Event 1 Fishers Green SC - 01/04/2006
There were no fools at FGSC 1st April. Nine visitors from all over the
SEANS area joined the local contingent for a largely sunny but gusty day
out.
Race one on a windward leeward course was led initially by the Rileys
(743), with Mike Chapman (641) taking over on the 2nd run. Sarah Allen
(880) was in touch after a return to check a potential OCS, but the win
went to the Rileys with Chapman second.
For race two a figure of eight was set to use more of the lake. Chapman
led at the first mark with Sarah second and the Rileys third. Local 'boy'
Conroy (1070) knew exactly when and where a gust would appear and
consequently planed into the lead at the first leeward mark. The lead
swapped between these teams for the rest of the race, only to be
spoilt 'brilliantly' by Alexander (1142) on the final run. He was closely
followed by Riley and Conroy who were a bowsprit apart.
After lunch, a round the cans variation was led by a port starting
Conroy, who was pursued but never caught by Gillow (1147) and Janenring
(1130). Sarah barely survived a notable spiking during a windward leeward
collision, pushing her back to ninth, with the Rileys in fourth.
This set up a tense final race that was delayed as a suitable windward
leeward course was set. In the shiftiest of conditions Sarah took an
early lead, pursued around the islands by the Rileys. They took the lead
on the 4th lap, holding off Sarah for the win, with Chapman 3rd.
This gave the Rileys the event with Sarah second on countback from
Conroy. After free tea and cakes, Andy Riley notably thanked his long
suffering crew in the acceptance speech, as well as the PRO and FGSC
catering teams. Will you be at the next SEANS event at Deben on the 16th
April?
