An exciting event was held at St Mary's Loch sailing club over the August Bank Holiday weekend, with 13 boats taking part. Wind strength varied over the weekend from approximately force nothing to force 5. The 2 races on saturday were dominated by Martin and Barbara Smith, with good performances also from Sarah Robertson/ Kate Mitchell and the 2 Liz's. In the first race the wind died away on the 2nd lap and there were a variety of place changes throughout the fleet when the wind filled in and the Enterprise fleet became intermingled with the 200's. For the 2nd race, the course was moved further down the loch where the wind was a bit more consistant. A Ceilidh was held on Saturday night where the Scots showed our friends from Delph how to dance, aided and abetted by copious amounts of liquid refreshment! Sunday brought very mixed weather with similarities to April showers. The fleet was piped afloat by a lone Piper playing "Speed Bonnie Boat" and that's certainly what happened next with 3 long hard races in squally conditions. There were many thrill and spills. Races 3 and 4 continued to be dominated by the Smiths and Robertson/Mitchell, with an excellent 2nd place by Dave Redpath and Calum Renz who pipped Robertson/Mitchell on the line. In the final race JP McCaldin and Tor finally found the accelerator pedal and did a complete horizon job on the rest of the fleet, despite sailing and extra part of the course (must have enjoyed the reach too much)! Katie Masterson and Ailsa Redpath improved in this race squeezing 2nd on the line.
