Sailing starts at Magic Marine RS400 Eurocup

Day 1

Sun shining the fleet went on to the water spinnakering away from the club.    After a short delay race one was under way with Richard Graham-Enock and Graham Walker in 1066 taking an early dominant lead turning the windward mark in first and spinnakering off towards the cliffs. 1344 and 1319 in close pursuit. 1344 gybed off first.1319 Stuart Robertson slipped in to first position with a low and slow approach forcing 1066 in to second. Lap two saw little change in the fleet until the downwind when Howard Farbrother and Dan in 1251 found a breeze of their own to storm through the top 5 boats in to second place. Final lap saw good close racing with Stuart Robertson 1319 finishing first Howard and Dan 1251 in second and 1344 James and Izzi in 3rd Steve Restall and Chris Stubbs pulled a good last downwind leg to steal 4th place from 1066. The last 3 boats had a tight tussle on the last downwind which became an upwind Aura kicked in.

Race 2 started with most of the fleet pushing out to the pin and forcing a couple of boats over the line. Stuart Robertson 1319 took an early lead with James Downer 1321 in close second. Most of the fleet had use the cliffs although the middle of the lake had given advantage to those who had chosen to venture out. Max Tosetti and Chris Stanton in 1031 found themselves in the top 5 thanks to Max's eagle eye for the shift.   The first downwind saw a complete split in the fleet with 1344 taking a march for the centre of the lake with 1031 in close pursuit and the rest of the fleet heading in to the cliffs. The leeward mark favoured the starboard side but the port end gave favour to the stronger pressure in the middle. James George and Lizzie Mitchell took the middle on a lone campaign only to find first place thanks to a luck shift. The rest of the fleet in precession took the cliffs. Once again Max and Chris found single figures turning the windward mark in 3rd place. Richard Enock and Graham Walker turned the mark in 8th only to find a snapped spinnaker halyard would interrupt their normal tidy drop and put them down in the lower teens.   The final lap saw 1344 lead 1319 and 1321 to the finish with James Downer and Jon Price stole second place from Stuart Robertson on the line, with Richard White and Martyn Styles taking a solid 4th.

The racing was then abandoned for the day when apocalyptic weather set in to drown the fleet in rain. The sail home presented the biggest challenge of the day with Vortex Typhoon like gusts seeing some sailing upwind while others were sailing down. All in all a good fun sprint back to the club for a well earned beer and pasta.
Overall James George and Izzi Mitchell 1344 took first place on count back from Stuart and Sarah Robertson 1319 in second and James Downer and Jon Price 1321 in 3rd.

Day 2

Race 3, and with the wind in the wrong direction again the fleet took a clean start to swiftly drop on to port tack due to a shift. Andy Hatch and Dan Hawkins 1390 stormed up the beat with only a last minute shift stopping them from rounding in first.    1351 Ian Robertson and Sandy Johnson rounded in first closely followed by 1321, 1319 1344 and 1251. The first downwind saw the middle as a favoured side giving first place to James Downer and Jon Price who took an early gybe. The second upwind again favoured the cliffs seeing 1321, 1251 and 1319 fighting it out.  The final leg saw Howard Farbrother and Dan Martin fight hard to stay ahead of James Downer and Jon Price. A well deserved first place for 1251 with 1321 in second, Peter Snowdon and Teresa Miola taking 3rd with Stuart and Sarah Robertson 1319 in 4th and James George and Izzi Mitchell in 5th.

Overall placings gave Stuart and Sarah Robertson 1319 first place with James George and Izzi Mitchell 1344 in Second and James Downer and Jon Price 1321 in 3rd.
