RS400 5:1 mainsheet purchase now allowed
At the RS400 Class Association AGM in August, a discussion took place about how best to facilitate a wider range of sailors to helm the RS400 – in particular reducing some of the sheet loads.
At the meeting it was proposed that formally allowing an additional purchase to the mainsheet, to make it 5:1 would be beneficial. Those present, in the main, considered this a good option to have.
A vote was held and the rule change was approved, with 95% voting in favour.
Rule 1.13.16 now reads
The maximum permissible velocity ratio of the mainsheet is 5:1. Blocks used in the mainsheet purchase may only be attached to eyes located at the centre of the boom, top of the mainsheet hoop, and on the mainsheet jammer.
5:1 Set Up
A few pictures of a 3:1 (original), 4:1 (now standard) and 5:1 setup are shown here using the standard supplied hardware. In the latter case the mainsheet has been tied around the boom but could equally be attached to one of the upper blocks. Additional blocks could be introduced on existing attachment points if required.
The RS400 Class Rules can be viewed here.
Thanks to those who raised this, debated it and to everyone who voted.
