Results / Scottish Series Dalgety Bay - 13/04/2003

A total of 25 RS's attended the first event on the Scottish Series at Dalgety Bay on the 12th April 2003. Five races were sailed in overcast conditions in wind conditions varying from force 2 for the first race to a force five in the last. The all Dalgety Bay 800 fleet was dominated Ronnie Miller and Pete Marshall winning the first four races and the event with a race to spare. Second place went to class new comers Robbie Wilson and Martin Booth with a win in race five and three second places with Keith and Catriona Cuthbert also new to the class in third. The 400 were also dominated by the home sailors with Gavin Flemming and Richard Higgins winning the first four races and the event with a race to spare. The were pushed hard by second place team of Steven Leask and J-P McCaldin counting three seconds and a win, but ultimately, Flemming and Higgins superior starts and ability to control races form the front, dominated the day. Third place went to Ian McCarlie and Grant Abrams by one point from class new comers Ian McClean and Paul Rigg of Royal Forth Yacht Club. Fifth place was a tussle to the end between East Lothian Yacht Clubs Donald MacLean and Ken Hutchinson also new to the 400 and class veteran Phil and Susan Britton with the Britons taking fifth by the narrowest of margins. As well as having the biggest fleet of the day the 200 also had the closest racing, with all 5 races having a different winner. In the end Katie Masterson and Fi Foukes St Marys Loch Sailing Club won by a commanding 5 points with a win in the last race and two second places and a fourth. Second to Sixth Place were separated by only 3 points with second going to Euan Dunn and Jo Foukes of Loch Lomond Sailing Club from Richard and Val Evans of Channory Sailing Club who were tied on the same number of points. Despite leading after 3 races Derwent Reservoir pair Jamei Gebhard and Karen Barker only finished fourth over all from St Marys Graeme Henry and Shiona Redpath. New comers to the 200 Bess Homer and Kirsty Higgins of Dalgety Bay showed they are a pair to watch as they took a race win in race three and will surely get more consistent as the season progresses. The next event on the Scottish tour is the UK Gull tour event at East Lothian Yacht Cub on 3rd and 4th May. Scotland's best get to pit their wits against the rest of the UK RS fleets, with over 30 expected in both the 200 and 400 fleets this is one not to be missed.
